Apex
Apex is a generative landscape series released with Art Blocks Curated in 2022. Developed by Ori Ben Shabat and Ronen Tanchum, the work tests the threshold where abstract structure begins to read as believable terrain, using code to build worlds from repetition, proportion, and controlled instability.
The system moves from simple circular forms into hyperreal environments shaped by Fibonacci sequences, golden-ratio relationships, and GPU-driven rendering. Each output stages a tension between diagram and landscape: at one moment a field of procedural marks, at another a mountain, valley, or atmospheric horizon.
For Phenomena Labs, Apex is an important early example of generative world-building as a studio method. It connects algorithmic composition, painterly atmosphere, and real-time rendering into a collectible system that can produce distinct images while preserving a coherent visual language.
