‘MOMENTS IN TIME’
An interactive art installation situated in the lobby of a Jönköping building, representing a seamless blend of art, technology, and architecture. Designed to reflect the dynamic nature of the city, this artwork is a living testament to the interplay between the human community and its environment.
Driven by real-time data, the installation continuously evolves, creating a fluid interface between the urban and natural world.
It features five chapters, each influenced by various data inputs such as people's movements, energy consumption, weather forecasts, and time of day. The chapters unfold in a visual symphony of abstract landscapes, interactive calligraphy, and digital florals, making the artwork an ever-changing representation of Jönköping's rhythm and spirit. This project reflects the infinite possibilities of combining technology and art, crafting a sensory experience that evolves with the heartbeat of the city.
"Moments in Time" is a testament to the harmony that can be achieved when art, architecture, and technology converge. This installation is more than a static piece—it's a living, breathing entity that responds to its environment and the people within it. It is an endeavor to create a meaningful dialogue between the artwork and its surrounding space, reflecting the rhythm and pulse of the lobby life.
Interactivity lies at the heart of this installation, transforming every passerby into an active participant in the art experience. The artwork responds to the movement of people, effectively turning each individual into a co-creator of the visual narrative. This interplay cultivates a unique, personalized connection between the observer and the artwork.
Moreover, real-time data from the building and external environment—such as energy consumption, weather patterns, and the time of day—form the lifeline of "Moments in Time". This data-driven approach enables the artwork to evolve in parallel with the rhythm of the building and the city, creating a dynamic piece that is as alive and vibrant as its surroundings.
This project shaped the way we think of what integrated art can be, but also inspires to a more profound interconnection between people, the architectural spaces they occupy, and the art they engage with. This installation stands as a compelling exemplification of the transformative power of art in architectural spaces and an invitation to experience the extraordinary in the everyday.
The art installation is a dynamic art installation that brings the concept of a 'living' artwork to life.
At its core, the installation is a multi-chapter digital storybook. Each chapter, manifested as an interactive visual element, is shaped by various real-time data inputs. Chapter I, "We Are The Creators," harnesses the power of AI to trace people's movements and translate them into a large-scale calligraphy brushstroke, making every visitor a contributor to the art.
The Concept, conceptualized alongside the architects and clients prior and during the construction phase, integrates with the building in a way that transcends traditional boundaries. The vast canvas not only augments the physical space but also becomes an integral part of the building's dynamic ecosystem.
The work unfolds through six visual chapters, each uniquely rendered in real-time by advanced computing servers. The installation, in its nuanced complexity, taps into a diverse range of data points, from live energy consumption to weather patterns and activity within the lobby. As the data fluctuates, so does the artwork, resulting in an evolving visual narrative that mirrors the rhythms of the building and its inhabitants.
Located in the heart of 'Science Park Towers' in Jönköping, Sweden, 'Moments in Time' is a digital art installation by Phenomena Labs. The artwork, seamlessly integrated into the architectural landscape, dynamically reflects the rhythm and pulse of the building's daily life on a 17-meter wide screen composed of over 6.5 million LED pixels.
Making Moments In Time
Interactivity and data proccesing sits at the core of the artwork.
Utilising AI technology, the installation observes and responds to the movements of people within the lobby.
This responsive engagement fosters a subtle interplay between the artwork and its observers, yielding an ongoing dialogue that perpetually redefines the space.
Chapter One: "Paint Brushes" Data input: Lobby visitors movements.
Invites visitors to embody the role of the artist as their movements are transformed into vibrant brushstrokes on a digital canvas.
Chapter Two: "Dreams of Nature" Data inputs: Wind Speed, Wind Direction, Nature image database.
Transports viewers into the breathtaking landscapes of Jönköping, transforming nature images into a mesmerizing field of dynamic particles, shaped by real-time wind data.
Chapter Three: "Weather" Data inputs: 28 metrics of live weather.
Presents a serene sky scene, intricately tied to real-time weather data, bringing forth snowfall, rainfall, thunder, and cloud movements.
Chapter Four: "Energy" Data inputs: Live energy levels and flow of the building.
Visualizes the building's energy consumption data, creating a captivating texture that fluctuates with the building's activity level, accompanied by a responsive waterfall that adapts to day and night modes.
Chapter Five: "Flowers" Data inputs: Wind Speed, Wind Direction, Movement Interactivity.
breathes life into the lobby with 3D recreations of local flora, responding to the movements of people on the stairs, unveiling a symphony of colors and arrangements.
Situated within the 'Science Park Towers', a vibrant hub of twelve high-tech startups, 'Moments in Time' draws upon the pulsating energy of its environment. The piece serves as a testament to the transformative potential of the building, reflecting the collaborative ethos and the innovative spirit of its tenants.
'Moments in Time' takes a new perspective on the integration of digital art within public spaces. Using data-driven 3d art to create immersive, responsive experiences, redefining how we perceive and interact with the built environment creating a parallel physical-digital expirence that affects the mood and creativity of the building’s tanents and beyond.
